Ad Man Turned Author

After I finished college with a bachelors degree in advertising, I decided to tie up a few loose cobwebs in the back of my head. I had a book idea I had been working on since high school, but I could never finish a draft that pleased me. When I finally did, I hopped on the traditional publishing wagon and sent stacks and stacks of query letters like there was no tomorrow. I sent at least 20 a week for several months. I was met with both positive and negative feedback, but no agent gave me a conclusive answer to taking my novel to the big leagues. It became evident that finding a proper agent and publisher could possibly take forever. I did not have forever.

The dream hit a roadblock.

I sank into despair. The coveted American Dream that I held so dear to my heart was just a hair out of grasp. But what could I do about it? Should I send letters over and over again for years to come? Should I go back to the drawing board? Did my book require a rewrite? What on God's green earth did I need to accomplish in order to complete my dream?

Then it dawned upon on me, why wait to finish my dream when I could take matters into my own hands? Sure, I would lose out on being represented by a prestigious publishing house like Harper Collins or Penguin, but then again, what did that matter anyway?

I love writing and advertising. I’m pretty damn good at both, so what better way than to combine the best of both my worlds? I could do all the work a traditional publishing company would and I'd represent myself.

The dream returned. And this time it was personal.

I decided to embark on a journey of self-publishing. I would forego the traditional route and do all the marketing and advertising myself to sell my book on my own terms. I cut out the middleman and now I work only for myself.

For those of you who are ready to join the ride, I welcome you to my blog. I hope you enjoy my insight on books, writing, and business.

Three years have gone by since I began this blog in 2014...

Presently, it is 2017 and things have changed considerably. There's a reality television star as our commander-in-chief, there's talk that we're on the brink of nuclear war, and there's been a big nostalgia wave for 80's themed everything. But one thing that still remains constant is my journey of adman to author, and now also businessman. I have grown through the trials and trials and tribulations as both a person and a writer. With it, I've launched a new Young Adult Book subscription service to combine both my passion for books and my love of marketing.

Another year has passed, and things have changed yet again!

In 2018, I have changed my blog once again to focus more towards writing, fashion, and culture. I want to focus more on producing quality content and perhaps shed light on new information in regards to the current state of the world.

It's been tumultuous, it's been heartbreaking, but it has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life thus far. I hope this site can continue to be resource for upcoming writers, those interested in reading, and as an inspiration to you all!
