Guest Author Speaker: Julia Lathrop Intermediate

That's me in the middle wearing white (just in case you didn't already know).

That's me in the middle wearing white (just in case you didn't already know).

This week I was given the special honor to speak at Ms. Sullivan's first period class at Julia Lathrop Intermediate School in Santa Ana, California. The classroom was filled with 7th grade students for a program called AVID (Advanced Via Individual Determination), a program designed to prepare students for college and to be functional members of society.

Talking points in my lecture included: Background, Education, and an explanation for coming with Gods From the Machine and the struggles it took to write and complete an entire novel. Afterwards, we culminated with brief Q/A to answer any questions the children had on their minds.

The kids were very well receptive of my colleague and I, and it felt great actually making an impact on impressionable children with stories about getting Gods From the Machine off the ground and running. All in all, it was a great way to start my morning and weekend. I certainly hope to participate in another lecture in the near future and to see what other ways I can help motivate the future generation of young minds!
